Age shall not weary them...

Henry Allingham, Britain's oldest man, one of the three surviving WW1 veterans in the UK, last survivor of the battle of Jutland, and the last living founder member of the Royal Air Force, turned 112 today. Living history, indeed. More details here:

You can't kill those birds. Tough as ten bears - I sometimes think guys like him feel a need to live vicariously for those who missed out. Great that he still has his marbles, but though once I would have called living (still sentient) to 112 an undoubted plus, these days I think nothing would make up for outliving your children. As the Chinese sage replied to the emperor who asked for a blessing: may your parents die first, then you, then your children.
