predatrix has the entire run of Torchwood on her digital recorder, just for me. Finally watched the opening episode. So now I know why there were all those wet knickers across LJ when Captain Jack appeared...
He was a lot livelier in Doctor Who, so if you missed that you missed the best of him. I think Jack's one of those characters like Avon who work better as a sidekick.
Re which episodes to watch:
Everyone except steverogerson thought episode two was complete crap (he liked it because of the explicit het).
Three (Ghost Machine) you'd better watch because Gareth's in it.
Four (Cyberwoman) is plot significant but has fairly major spoilers for the end of the Tennant season of Doctor Who - but perhaps you did see that? It has more Ianto than most, though I was disappointed because it didn't take him in the direction I hoped.
Five (Small Worlds) is the fairy one, which a lot of people liked.
Six is Countrycide, which a lot of us would skip.
Seven (Greeks Bearing Gifts) isn't essential, but has some nice f/f.
Eight (They Keep Killing Suzie) is the first really worthwhile one.
Nine (Random Shoes) some people liked and some of us loathed. It was basically a reprise of "Love and Monsters" from the Tennant season.
Ten (Out of Time) got an enthusiastic reception and had Jack's first good scene.
Eleven (Combat) isn't important.
Twelve (Captain Jack Harkness) is your must-see.
And Thirteen (End of Days) you might as well see if you've got that far.
So I'd say focus on 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, or if you're really pushed for time 1, 8, 10, 12.
Thanks. That's going to be very useful. I did see Random Shoes when I was watervole's before Christmas, and thought that I liked it but wouldn't want more than one episode per season like that.
As long as it's just explicit het in ep 2, and not hairy het...
Never mind. predatrix has just insisted on telling me the complete plot of one of the episodes I wanted to see, the better that I may know why I should watch it, so now I don't need to...
