I've installed the firmware update and it didn't solve that problem for me. Worse than that: sometimes it doesn't keep hold of the bookmarks, either. This may have something to do with the number of books I've got on it (close to a thousand now) and the fact that I've got them in folders so I can easily see what I've got when transferring files on the computer. Also, bookeen keeps promising that the next update will have folder support, so I can actually use those. I'm guessing that's going to be Real Soon Now... Also, I loaded the battery using the wall socket just once, and wasn't able to read while it loaded that way either. It still went into file transfer mode. Also, the more books you've got stored in it, the longer it takes to start up. Also, using the SD card drains the battery more quickly. However, there is an option where the ebook doesn't switch off at all, which would solve most of the aforementioned problems since it isn't supposed to use any energy just holding a page. I might try that.

Anyway, bottom line, I love the thing. It is indeed easier to read than dead trees and also easier to hold, even with the cover that came with my version (I went for the deluxe package). Holding a dead tree book is much more of a strain on my arms, while my eyesight is quite good enough to select a fairly small font which means I don't have to press the button for the next page all that often. This means that for me the cybook is also much easier on the RSI.

I've not yet looked at the above links yet, sorry if I'm saying the same things.
