Are your books on the SD card, or on the built in flash? I found things worked better with the built in flash. That, and the slowness or booting with hundred+ books (and poor navigation) means I haven't used the SD card since.

Leaving the machine "on" all the time kills battery life; the display may not take any power but the rest of the electronics do.
