Dr Who 4.11

The darkness is coming...

So they're starting to pick up a lot of different strands now, including some from quite a while back, and across all three branches of the franchise. Good Donna episode, although rather over-egging the "Donna is wonderful" thing -- I found that annoying with Rose, and it's making my teeth itch with after one episode of it with Donna, *because* they went so overboard with Mary Sueing Rose.

Some chilling scenes and fine acting, and I particularly liked the way they played the scene with a reference to events of some years back, as that would go over the heads of the small children in the audience while being deeply disturbing to the adults.

So yes, we are getting the rumoured Torchwood cross-over for the finale two-parter, which should prove... interesting. And I do hope they've got a plausible explanation for the latest resurrection of the Big Bad, because an awful lot of us remember what sort of state he was left in the last time we saw him back in the eighties.

The scene with the 'non-English' families being taken away was particularly well done. Old Cribbins still has the acting chops. Absolutely chilling!

Why does Rose look different? Has BP lost a lot of weight? Her face looks a different shape.

Looking forward to next week.

I had to keep rewinding and replaying her dialogue to work out what she was trying to say. She sounded quite normal in the Confidential (in which she didn't seem to be wearing make-up, and looked much prettier than usual), but she did say she'd panicked about playing Rose again and had spent hours watching her old episodes in order to work out how to do it. So maybe that was her attempt at mimicking herself two years ago, and it didn't quite come off.

I'm surprised in reading through all the comments so far that no-one else seems to have picked up on the fact that she seemed "gaunt" and more lispy than usual - she must have been either quite ill during the filming, or on something.

And a quick google about shows that she is currently pregnant... so I'd guess at the "not feeling too chipper" stage of pregnancy :-)

Ah, that could explain things, though it depends when the episodes were actually filmed, of course.

I would have found the "Donna is wonderful" thing annoying had we not been shown enough examples of Donna being wonderful in this season to convince me that she is wonderful. :)
