I thought they were helping, but it didn't occur to me why until after I'd left the surgery. This is a mostly dry cough, but I do have some congestion in my nose and sinuses, and I think the menthol inhalation was letting me breath through my nose more -- which meant my throat wasn't getting as dry and irritated.
