been to see the doctor...

The cough's getting worse, so back to see the doctor this morning. Apparently a) I still have the virus even if I've been feeling a lot better other than the persistent cough, b) I'm already doing pretty much the right things about the cough off my own bat, and there's not a lot more she can suggest. Keep using the steam inhaler, don't bother with the menthol crystals added to the water. Keep taking aspirin, stop using the aspirin-with-codeine since the codeine's cough suppressant effect isn't working. (I didn't bother pointing out that I'm taking the co-codeine before bed for the pain and general sedative effect as well as the cough.) Have a prescription for an inhaler, which may or may not do some good. I haven't tried it yet, but will use it before I go to bed. Which should be soon, given how little sleep I got last night.

The menthol crystals may not actually do anything to make you better sooner, but they may well help you to feel a bit better while you're still coughing. My take on the old home remedies is that some may actually work and the rest generally make you feel less miserable.

I'm never quite sure whether my inhaler helps or not, but it does make me feel as if I'm doing something. Hope you get more sleep tonight, and in future.

Sending karmic good thoughts... I had a cough yesterday, but that was from the smoke drifting up from yet more bushfires, I think.

I have no idea why, but I find blackcurrant cordial (Ribena etc) in hot water helps (and a friend with small boys swears by it, she can actually get them to drink it :)
