The website's back, and writing thoughts

 My professional (for certain values of professional) website is back up. I've even updated it with the somewhat belated news that all five in the original batch of reprints are now up, and also available in paperback, no less!

Amazon's recently started offering a hardback option in KDP, and I am very tempted to play with it, but it would need quite a bit of work, given the price I'd be unlikely to actually sell any, and I don't have the time and spoons at the moment for just messing about with it for fun. Given the setup cost v per page cost, I'm considering whether it would be nice to do omnibus volumes of the Lord and Master and Spindrift duologies, or alternatively put the two short stories in with Lord and Master 2, as Alex did me some covers for the shorts that could be used as dividers within the book.

I think for now the priority should be getting covers and then creating the reprint editions of some of my other Loose Id titles. I don't intend to do all of them; not least because I think Nice Tie could do with some heavy editing before being put back on sale. But I'd like to get the Buildup books and Promises to Keep back out there.

Go you! Sounds like a lot of work...I still haven't quite decided about a print edition of my novella omnibus (I'm not ready to put it together yet, still working on the Extras).

I did find the print edition relatively easy to do, but I'd had help with formatting the manuscript from someone who'd already been through it. What you may find is that with it being print on demand a cover price that would allow you to get some royalties would be more expensive than people would be willing to pay. On the other hand, if it's a niche genre where people are used to paying higher than mass market paperback prices anyway, you might get some takers.

And it's useful to have a few copies to sign if you want to take them to cons. I only sold a handful of The Syndicate in paperback and wouldn't have bothered if I hadn't been able to put some on Judith's zine table in the dealer's room in return for manning the table for a few hours, but it was still useful to have them there so people could look at them. If you're a member of Broad Universe you could put some on their dealer's room table - I did that a couple of times as well.

That's a good thought for the future. I was a member of Broad Universe long ago.
