Coming from similar fandom routes to you (with some 1970s Brit historicals thrown in), I do boggle at the profusion of white, middle class, youngish USians in the fiction around me (although my little gang of Brit writers includes a majority who seem to write anything but...).
Just looking at current works (published, submitted or actively in progress), I have:
Protagonists of unspecified race and age (implied to be young by years lived but the chronology for one of them is distinctly weird), one sight-impaired, one hard of hearing. Both working with tech, but with aspirations elsewhere on the part of at least one.
One mixed race (white/South Asian descent), one white British (with a white British supporting character) twenty-somethings (and retired at an unspecified age some years before). Teacher and artist (and ex-teacher/children's writer), because I needed them to all be in a specific place at the same time.
White British actors (with supporting black British actors). Twenty-somethings (and a mixture of ages). One/two stories in a planned collection about transformations, which will cover a wider range overall.
White middle class, white upper class and black Caribbean-born/adopted by white upper-middle to upper class parents. Range of ages from mid/late 30s to 70s. Some mental health issues on the parts of various characters.
Far future with equivalents of East Asian/Australian and black British protagonists with very mixed supporting cast. Twenty-something and forty-something, both with PTSD and one with physical disabilities (plus future-tech that doesn't always work as it should).
Could possibly be more diverse, but I haven't included all the other planned short stories on my spreadsheet.
