The turning of the seasons
Aug. 31st, 2011 09:46 pmIt's still officially summer tonight, but the first signs of autumn have come to the village. I noticed last week that one of the trees in the park was starting to show the first signs of gold in the leaves, though I wasn't quite sure. Yesterday there was absolutely no doubt. A cold and wet bank holiday weekend has brought on the colour, and that tree was streaked with red and gold amongst the green. Tonight it was a blaze of autumn colour mixed in with the green, and other trees are starting to turn. It's not that cold, not yet, but I was still glad to find the central heating on when I arrived home.

Date: 2011-09-01 10:34 am (UTC)Today, by contrast, is a summer's day - I've been knitting one of my mum's Christmas presents - a bedjacket - outside in the hot sun!. D and I have an agreement that the gas heating doesn't go on unless it drops to 5 centigrade or below outside temperature; the electric immerser can be left on at 12 c or less for background heat.Part environment , part financial, part both of us hating being too hot indoors in winter. I've already got my sweaters out ready.-)

Date: 2011-09-01 07:04 pm (UTC)With spending so much of my life in warmer climes, I genuinely feel cold at relatively high temperatures, but it was the damp yesterday more than the actual temperature. It was nice and warm again today, but even so I ended up getting my hot water bottle out at work this evening, because my shoulder hurts. I feel daft sitting there in a teeshirt with a hot water bottle across my shoulder, but it does help the bad shoulder when it starts complaining.
