It struck me because they mentioned that it was his birthday on the news on the radio this morning -- and although I wasn't paying attention and might have missed it, I don't think they mentioned that it was the Apollo 11 anniversary.
He wasn't just half of the first pair to stand on Everest, but the first person to stand on top of Everest and at both Poles -- and at 88, he's still going to far-flung places. Amazing guy. It's a very pretty coincidence that the moon landing was on his fiftieth birthday.
