It will, but it's a Thinkpad laptop, so it's pretty much impossible to break the region locking on it (which is irritating, given that this is a machine bought specifically for travel to several different countries). Hence my reluctance to use it just as a DVD player until the TV is bought, in case I actually *need* it at some point in the future.
We've picked out the tv we want to buy. Unfortunately, it seems that half the tv-buying population of the UK have also set their hearts on that model, and it's been out of stock since before Christmas... With any luck we'll have one soon. Failing that, we *have* just bought the region-free DVD player that will go under the telly, and if I get desperate I can always connect it to the computer monitor.
