With three episodes on this disc, there are fewer extras -- only three mini-documentaries, one for each episode on the disc.

Five minute documentaries focusing on how they created the device/monster of the week. A lot of overlap with the material in the Declassifieds, but some new material and a different focus.

You enjoying the boxset? I like most of what is on there but think that a lot of the extras were an afterthought just thrown together from what they already had....

There's definitely *some* new material in the extras, but a lot of it is recycled Declassified (and a lot of the new stuff is clearly from material filmed for the Declassified that didn't make the broadcast version). I think most of it's worth watching at least once and isn't pure padding, but some of it does feel like a "what can fill the spare space with?"

The thing I really like is the commentaries, as some of those have been really good, to the point where I'll probably listen to one or two of them several times. (Chibnall is particularly good, because his commentary is quite frank about where he thinks he made mistakes and what he'd do with hindsight, while the Declassified is essentially ten minutes of "aren't we wonderful".) So I'm a bit annoyed that they won't have any on the series 2 boxset.

They're not doing commentaries for S2? Waah! I like the commentaries, though I've not had time to watch them all yet, life keeps getting in the way. Its nice when they can take the p out of what they've done!

I think they might have been expecting it to flop and when it became popular then they though ooh what can we put on the DVD and were limited by time...

There was a report from one of the cons a couple of months ago that mentioned someone (one of the directors, I think) saying that the DVD production firm decided to save money by not doing the commentaries, and he was annoyed because he enjoyed getting to talk about the episodes in series 1 and wanted to do it again. So I checked the set details and it doesn't mention commentaries, which is annoying. And it's fewer discs this time, which suggests they have fewer extras. (Though the set is a bit cheaper than the first one.)

*sigh* I've missed a lot of the news of what's going on of late. It is a big shame as they are enjoyable and you get to hear from the people involves behind the scenes. Its still a bit expensive for me but who knows... Its all about saving money I suppose!
