This was fascinating to read. Thanks for posting it. I was ignoring the whole ebook phenomenon, sure that I was in the 'I want a real book in my hands' brigade until very recently. After my interest was tickled with a book I had always wanted to read (found via project Guttenberg) but couldn't find in print, I heard a debate on Radio 4 about the Sony ebook reader versus the Kibble - I mean Kindle - and while looking online I discovered that I could turn my Dell Axim into a reader with just a bit of software. Though it has many drawbacks, it has been a revelation. I was interested to see what you had to say about the eInk versus backlit displays - I hadn't thought about sunlight on a PDA screen as I've only been reading it in the house. The RSI problem had occurred to me and I did wonder about fragility. It looks to me as if the next generation or two of ereaders could well be where I spend my money.
