Damn it, I'd been thinking about going to Novacon, and then completely forgot it was on this weekend until I saw a tweet just now. Which probably means that I wasn't in a fit state to go anyway. Redemption is highly unlikely to happen for me, which means I'd better start thinking about exactly how incompatible next year's Eastercon hotel is with my dietary and sleeping requirements. ("Highly" as far as diet goes, going by memories of reports from past cons, but I may be mixing it up with another hotel.)

I miss the Ashford. I usually managed to get a reasonable night's sleep there, and there was a large supermarket plus several fast food restaurants within walking distance, which meant I had a sporting chance of finding something I could eat at the time I needed to eat it, even before we managed to train the hotel in the concept that bar snacks needed to cater to the people who wanted *fast* food, as well as the people who wanted cheap food. The Radisson Edwardian at Heathrow isn't quite as good on the food front, but I am looking forward to going back there for Eastercon 2012.

Most conventions do not happen for me either due to me being persnickety and poor, not quite the same as having dietary restrictions, but I sympathize. I did not go to the most local convention to me (MileHiCon) since the people I would want to see there would mostly be busy running the con, lack of money, lack of time, and my reluctance to compromise my comfort. I'll probably be headed back to Albuquerque next year, but other than my friend's micro-con (it may be the smallest real SF convention with an art show, masquerade, awards banquet, and everything) those will be my only conventions. Bubonicon and Karval Kon. Hey, you want to be guest of honor at Karval Kon? To be guest of honor you cannot be present and you must be someone I can convince everyone that we wish were hanging out with us in Limon, CO.

If there's anything we can do to encourage you to come let us know - we'd miss one of our stalwarts ;-)

Food's always an issue away from home for us - one of us has a low blood sugar problems, the other is gluten intolerant and I've ended up running with a takeway into a panel before now to prevent collapse. However good the hotel cheyanne7 and I I never con travel without a supply of non perishable snacks and fast energy boosters ( I like kraft cheese slices and Lidl's sausages), gluten free bread, chocolate and peanuts etc. The new red hotel's evening set meals were pretty good though - first time Ive eaten a regular dinner at a con!
