The Great Unpacking continues. Some of the stuff coming out of boxes is being disposed of, on the grounds that I wasn't originally expecting it to be in storage for quite as long as it has been, and thus have since either duplicated it or no longer have a use for it. It's mostly going to go to either the local charity shops or a con jumble sale/chaos costuming/etc, but some is getting binned. Speak up if you want any of this stuff. You'll need to make arrangements to collect it from the Manchester area or pay for postage.

Books, mostly sf&f paperbacks with a sprinkling of textbooks and oddments. Because I have finally faced the fact that no, I am not going to read some of them again, and they are taking up a lot of room. Room that could be used for *new* books. :->

Misc kitchenware and ornaments.

Old curtains (some of which are badly sun-faded).

Box of 1980s/1990s Starburst/Cult Times/TV Zone/SFX etc. Yes, I will pick through it looking for particular topics -- there's a fair bit of Blake's 7 and old school Who, oddly enough. (This lot's going in the next paper recycling collection if nobody's spoken for it by then -- I *mean* it about needing to clear some shelf space.)

Full set of Blake's 7 PAL VHS tapes (in the unlikely event there is anyone who doesn't have a set and wants one).

I'm currently working my way through boxes of Stuff that have been in storage for a decade. This morning's first box to be unpacked revealed two items from the stone age of personal computing, an Epson PX-8 CP/M laptop complete with solid state drive unit, and a Sharp PC-1500 along with its external printer unit/cassette drive interface.

Yes, you read that right, a CP/M laptop. The youngsters amongst you will be asking "What's CP/M, Mummy?" and the geriatrics will be getting misty-eyed -- though possibly with tears of anger rather than nostalgia, depending upon which side of that particular OS religious war you were on.

These things still worked last time I switched them, around ten years ago. I'm afraid to turn them on now in case something goes bang when I don't have time to fix them, but they look absolutely fine. And I know that I won't do anything with them if I keep them (although the Sharp would be a perfectly good pocket word processor, I already have a herd of Psions and their keyboards are nicer). Must see if [personal profile] caerleon is still operating the Sunshine Home For Elderly Computers, or indeed if there are any collectors who'd be interested in them. You can actually still buy a brand-new Epson PX-8 -- these things were built to last, and they're fun toys for geeks who are into retro computers.
