Gacked from Making Light, an excellent article by Lev Grossman in Time Magazine about fanfic.

Grossman gets it -- this is one of the best mainstream articles I've seen.

Well worth the lin

A writer's characters are his or her children, but even children have to grow up eventually and do things their parents wouldn't approve of.

Perhaps we have to allow for the time when those children are still young and living at home.

Autopope said something once about he doesn't mind fanfiction, but prefers people to wait until he's done with a series himself. That's probably equivalent to wanting people to allow for a time when the kids are still living at home.
