Fic rec: Ellen Fremedon -- No Man's Land
May. 16th, 2010 08:49 pmApparently it's my weekend for stumbling over cross-over fanfic about Wimsey's war. I don't even normally go out looking for fic online...
The Second Doctor's on-screen story finishes with The War Games, in which the Doctor, Zoe, and Jamie find themselves in what initially appears to be a World War 1 battlefield, but turns out to be an alien planet being used as a training ground and sorting centre for soldiers kidnapped from battles throughout Earth's history. No Man's Land by Ellen Fremedon considers the possibility of Major Peter Wimsey and Captain Jack Harkness being amongst those soldiers stolen from 1917. I've never seen The War Games, so I can't say for sure that this is completely canon-compatible, but it *feels* right to me, for both Doctor Who and for Lord Peter Wimsey. This is something that could have happened off-screen and before the first book. The end feels a little abrupt to me, but that's a reflection of what happened in canon.
I would note for those who care in either direction that this is genfic.
