A grand day out

I've known Fiona Glass online for nigh on a decade, but we'd never been in the same place at the same time. Today, however, we were both around and within travelling distance, and we met up in Manchester city centre for lunch, writerly nattering, and museum visiting. We ended up spending the entire afternoon in Manchester City Art Gallery, starting with lunch in the cafe, then doing some of the galleries, and then back to the cafe for an afternoon tea break before heading back to the train station.
Excellent fun, not least because I much prefer going around galleries with other people so that we can discuss what we're looking at and our reactions to it, and I haven't done that with an art gallery for a while. We saw a lot of nice stuff, but two pieces particularly struck us, enough to go through the shop-on-the-way-out to hunt for prints. Found one, but not the other. I did, however, take photos of both the pictures and their explanatory signs, the better to look things up online later.
Got home very, very tired, so I'm not writing it up in any more detail for now, but had an excellent time and came away with notes on some wonderful art to go and have another look at some time.
