Still working on the submission package for Journey Into Freedom, although it's not going to get in the post tonight -- I've not been very well today plus I've been wrestling with the LAN Chez Alex, and by this point I don't feel like rushing through it to try to get down to the Post Office before closing time today. But I have a reasonable looking cover letter now, so thanks to those who cast a beady eye over the draft and made helpful suggestions. At least I've got a sporting chance of having an envelope ready to take to the post office tomorrow afternoon if there's time after my train journey.

I'm looking at the synopsis with a view to tweaking it in light of Miss Snark's comments during the recent synopsis critique festival. There is a comment about half way down about "This is getting tres kinky". predatrix's reaction was "what do you mean getting kinky?" I fear she may have a point. As those others of you who have seen the actual manuscript will know, there is a reason I go into teapot mode every time I contemplate submitting it somewhere... :-)

*sigh* I wish someone would publish it. I loved the bits I read and having more of your fiction published is a very good thing.

It'll sell somewhere eventually. It doesn't really help that each time it takes me several weeks of nervous fit before I actually put the thing in the post, but on the other hand there's probably more actual chance of selling it now than there was two years ago.

Oddly enough I didn't find it kinky at all. I would try to get away with less detail than that in a litfic synopsis but then maybe genre publishers want more?

That's pretty much the version that went to Tor, trimmed very slightly to get it under Miss Snark's 1000 word limit (which in itself was a useful exercise). That was adjusted from the version that went to RH, with the assistance of comments from feetnotes on slanting it with a view to pimping it to the sf market. I did make it a bit longer than I might have for something that wasn't quite so cross-genre, but it's still under four double-spaced pages, which is useful. I'm now staring at it wondering how to deal with the very long sentences. Unfortunately that is rather more my natural style than short punchy ones...

Miss Snark's blog is very, very useful. I submitted as well (#72), but even if I hadn't, just reading all the synopses and Miss Snark's comments were very helpful. As soon as I get some time, I'm going to peruse her archive and look for the Query Crapometer she did a few months ago.

I haven't read most of them yet, because I was pretty much offline for a week and I haven't had time to look at them since I got back online. But I'll probably get a chance to do so next week. Will make a note to look at yours.
