More on the flist

I have found how to make a Default View that displays only a subset of the people on my flist. That's now set up with my daily reading list, and I've friended back pretty much everyone who's friended me. Exact tweaking can wait until later. I'm still not going to automatically friend back those who friend me - e.g. if it's an LJ that I really am not going to read even when I have time/working wrists, and I don't have a particular reason to keep it in *my* flist for the benefit of other people who might be looking for it, it ain't getting friended even if it's one of my closest friends. I can think of at least two examples right now, on account of them never posting anything but memes and never learning to use a cut-tag - and I'll bet that at least one person who is on my flist can guess exactly who they are. :-)

If it helps, I would never know how other flists are set up because I hardly ever read friends' posts in their own journals. I've got used to my own colours and format and prefer to read in that. It is amazing how many otherwise nice kind respectable people have journals in ageist type with poncy fonts, on indecipherable backgrounds and in a size less than 12pt...

I second you on the cut tags. I have 2 friends whose ljs I would not want to miss, but they drive me mad with long uncut posts.

You do have to wonder if other people ever look at their own journal through the stylesheet they've picked. Mind you, I'm pretty sure some of them *don't* -- the stylesheet is chosen to project some sort of image, like the people who think that anyone with aspirations to be a horror writer needs to have a blog with dark red text in a "handwriting" font on a black background.

I know of a couple of people who have an explicit policy that they will never use cut tags. Their attitude is that it's their diary, and if you don't want to read their golden prose, then don't read it. Fair enough. It *is* theirs. I don't have to read it. And I don't.
