Been travelling, and thus have been offline since Sunday. Finally get connectivity ttoday, and discover the world (or at least *my* world) talking about the iPad.

That's going to make life interesting. And like a good little commercially minded small press author, my first thought immediately after "Shiny!" was "I wonder what this is going to do for ebook sales?" Definite incentive to keep plugging away at the new book.

(No, that did not happen while travelling. I feel... inhibited... by the presence of an audience. Especially an audience I'm guaranteed to be sitting next to for the next few hours, with no way for either of us to escape.)

Just had a look for the specs for the iPad and e-books are available in US only. Presumably you'd get them from the iTunes store or similar so it would block people outside the US. Shame. It looks so shiny.

CNBC (a business channel) suggested it won't do anything for the ebook market, because people watch videos and "form is not a factor" for text.

Hah.

But, because of the shiny, I think it may mean a boost for graphic-ebooks more than regular text. Yes, it gets more readers into more hands which is good, but I'm not sure it will do a whole lot for text-only books.
