Look what I just found on Amazon -- pre-order for series 2 in a boxed set by itself, or in a boxed set with series 1, for delivery April 9:

I don't think they've even announced a transmission date for Series 2 yet (just "early in 2007") so I find it hard to believe they'll really release the DVD on that date.

According to the wikipedia entry, series 2 has already been filmed, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was released the week the last episode was shown on tv, which would allow them to start showing it in February.

The theory is February 19 - apparently Waking the Dead ends on Feb 12 - so that would mean the final episode going out on April 9.

And last time they brought forward the DVD release from October to May once they realised they had a hit on their hands, so this time they may have organised it so they can advertise the DVDs as the final credits roll.

Sendit.com is advertising the release date for Season Two (http://sendit.com/video/item/7001000130908) as April 2, and the box set (http://sendit.com/video/item/7001000130909) as September 24, whereas Amazon thinks both on the same day.

Ah. I tend not to look at Sendit.com for boxed sets, because Amazon is usually cheaper for sets shipped from UK to US. (They deduct the VAT, and charge the per-item fee per set, not per disc.) But must check Sendit for a couple of other items I want...

I've just ordered series 1, but I think I'll pre-order series 2 once my next royalty cheque's arrived. That way I won't have to avoid spoilers for more than a couple of months. :-)
