My flist is quiet this weekend. This is because half of it is at Redemption, a British con which started out as a Blake's 7/Babylon 5 con but which these days is much more of a general sf con. Yes, sf con, not media con, because Redemption is run by sf fans whose tastes happen to include tv. There's a reason why I get snarky (all right, snarkier than usual) with litfen who get snobby about Filthy Media Fen Bringing The Apocalypse...
There are a good many reasons why I regret not being there this weekend, but the prime one has to be that I am missing the cabaret performance of Under Torchwood, which has probably just finished. I do, do hope there was someone with a cam and a Youtube account in the audience.

Date: 2007-02-25 03:22 am (UTC)I ended up on the Redemption/Orbital desk in fan alley at Glasgow Worldcon, for reasons involving "I had to run away to Merkia to avoid being press-ganged onto the committee, you know". Which meant I had to spend some time listening politely to an Old Fart who felt the need to lecture us about how scummy mediafen taking over Eastercon was one of the signs of the end of the world. Which provided a certain amount of entertainment, because the other person on the table was someone who makes me look polite and restrained, and I got to watch *him* listen politely. :-)
It's always fascinated me that lit fandom, if it notices me at all, regards me as a media fan, when in fact I have very little interest in tv and not much more in the cinema.

Date: 2007-02-25 02:33 am (UTC)One of the things that always annoyed me about A Terrible Novel was that reading it through an editor's eyes, I could see that there was genuine potential there. He's quite capable of learning to write a good book -- in a genre he understands. Unfortunately that genre is not science fiction.
