Farewell Rumor Mill

I need to edit my sidebar. :-( The Speculations Rumor Mill is no more, alas. It was the first online writing community I found, around nine years ago, although I don't think I actually delurked there until after I had done so on rasfc. I hadn't looked at it much in the last few months, between the move and having been focused on writing a contemporary romance rather than specfic, but it used to be a near-daily read for me. Meant to go over there this weekend and catch up, but got sidetracked by a sudden burst of writing on the WIP. And then last night I received the last ever issue of Speculations, with the notice that Speculations was closing, along with the Rumor Mill.

End of an era. It was a lot of fun, I met some good friends there, and I got a lot of good advice. I'm very grateful to Kent for the years he put into Speculations.

There are other places to go, as suggested in the Note Of Doom, and some of us already hang out in those places. However, I know several of us are on LJ -- has anyone set up an LJ community?

I'm setting one up right now. I have it currently set where anyone can post....but moderators have to approve the post before it goes live. That can easily be changed, though....

Interested in being a moderator? That would mean several extra messages or e-mails a day....

I'll volunteer, but I may have to drop out if it gets busy. I don't have much to report myself, of course, because I write so few shorts. :-)

I do understand. Adding or droppong a moderator is the click of a mouse, and a moderator can drop themselves....so anytime you think it gets to be too much, just go edit members, and take off your "Maintainer" status. Thanks! ;o)
