Thought I'd watch an episode of Torchwood over lunch, turned on the telly, and was surprised to find Bodie threatening to slowly kill a couple of people "if anything happens to Ray". Looks like ITV4 is running The Professionals in the lunchtime "entertainment for bored housewives" slot. I wonder if this is deliberate, and if they know *why* it makes good entertainment for bored housewives beyond the ample supply of the pretty.

My god, it's slashy, isn't it? I'm old enough to have watched it when it was first released, though not old enough to have noticed the slash subtext at the time. I saw it again about eight or nine years ago on cable, and knew all about slash by then; but I haven't seen it since, and the boxed set hasn't yet reached the top of my DVD-buying priority list. I may have to change my daytime tv-watching plans for the next couple of weeks...

Thanks for that -- I knew there'd been problems because they couldn't get the original source tapes/film, and was wondering if the second go at remastering actually achieved anything.

I've got a significant chunk of the run of books, picked up in a charity shop a few years ago, and *those* are incredibly slashy, especially the final one. So much so that I honestly wondered if Brian Clemens *knew* what he was doing when he wrote them that way.

Brian Clemens claims he didn't know at the time. But, um, I remain unconvinced. :)

I honestly think it's one of the slashiest series on tv like, EVER. I still can't believe some of the stuff they got away with... O.o Not that I'm complaining, you understand.

One of the things I remember from seeing it again as an adult was the astonishing amount of crotch-cam and arse-cam work. To which my reaction was "The cameraman as either a gay cameraman or a camerawoman." I mean, long, lingering arse shots at the slightest excuse, in an action series supposedly aimed at the male demographic at a time when this was assumed to be the 100% Kinsey 0 male demographic?

I need to work my way through the ginormous To Be Watched stack of DVDs here before I order it, but I *will* order the boxset sometime this year.
