Just watched the second episode of Torchwood for the first time -- the one that most of my flist thought sucked harder than... well, fill in the bad joke yourself. This is the one with the sex gas driving a young woman to bonk anything in trousers, praying mantis style. Detailed analysis later, but will you all hate me if I say that it wasn't good, but it wasn't actually utterly terrible?

Its the second episode so doesn't have to be good really (: I quite liked it but it was probably the idea more than the actual script (: Though if you hate it thats fine too. I mostly like the cute men (:

If you look at it from a beleivability point of view it is indeeds a bit pants (: Oh and they should really avoid putting in the sexy scenes as they never seem to quite manage them for some reason. My imagination does far worse on its own! Though Ianto is just scarily cute isn't he? You know someone has created a new community for people that feel like pervy women looking and people like this which is fun (:

It was probably my least favourite episode, but still worth watching I think. Sure there were plot holes. Tell me of any TV show without plot holes... In the case of TW I'm happy to suspend disbelief when necessary.

I didn't think any of S1 Torchwood was utterly terrible - each episode had something in it that made it worth it for me, but then I was also watching two other programmes* at the same time that I thought were abominable so I was probably using up my bile and hatred on them.

*Robin Hood and Primeval

I liked it for the boy kiss. Okay, so my standards are low--at least I have them.

I have and I'm not riveted. Not sure why--maybe it's just that the boy isn't watching any more. He was the one to come yell, "Hey, Mom, a new Torchwood!"

Can we get a "Best Jack and Ianto" clip special?

Too much work. I need them compiled, put on one DVD or download, and delivered directly to me. See? If iTunes was all that, they'd already have this done. Slackers.

Grrr the Jonas Armstrong ITV Robin Hood is appalling. (Dialogue like: 'Come on, my gang.' Oh please!) But I have an idea for a Robin Hoodesque novel so I do tend to watch everything Robin Hoody that crops up. In this case the TV companies should have saved themselves an awful lot of money doing a remake and should just have shown the Michael Praed Robin of Sherwood seasons again. Though they've had very limited repeats (on freeview TV), they never got a single repeat on primetime, I believe due to some dispute about repeat fees and actors' residuals.

As to Primeval... I can't make up my mind. Cutter's a very unlikely hero and Steven, who was obviously set up to be the eye-candy macho role just didn't quite cut the mustard. Abbie turned out to be very likeable though and (surprisingly) so did Connor. It's a load of bollox, of course, but some of it surprisingly watchable bollox. If there's no Doctor Who on at the same time when season three airs I will probably watch it again.

From: [identity profile] agentxpndble.livejournal.com
Now that I have two seasons under my belt, I actually kind of like it... I think the problem was that it was so early on, I didn't have a true picture of what Torchwood was all about. So it seemed ridiculous and offensive compared to what one would expect from *other* shows - But within the Torchwood model (which became clear later,) I thought it was good. I also appreciate it more having heard all the behind the scenes people talking about it - Let's face it, it's by fanboys for fanboys. I can appreciate that. ;-)

I think it's the only episode in season one, however, that doesn't *really* stand up to the 2x12 filter - I felt some stuff contradicted that a little... Although I *LOVED* all the stuff about Jack being so cold and cruel - So, so awesome considering Cyberwoman! and 2x12!Ianto.

It's that bit in 1x02 when they are all sitting around the conf table (yeah, those caps I posted are from that, thanks) eating lunch that could be a bit sloppy, depending on how you interpret it - They are all speculating about Jack's leanings and it seems the Gay thing is still unconfirmed... Ianto professes that he doesn't *care* - not that he doesn't *know* - but one would assume he would know by that point and why wouldn't he say? Of course, if he *does* know (from personal experience) but lets everyone think that he doesn't, that says something right there. He also does that thing with the napkin tucked in, which I had blocked from my memory I guess. :::headdesk::: And he laughs - a full out laugh. He is the very epitome of adorable.

But, as stated many times, this was the first filmed - written early - etc... Might be that we have to toss this out of canon as it suits us.

The bit that jars for me is more that 2.12 says that Tosh and Owen have been working with Jack for over 3 and 2 years ...

Yes, I thought that the speculation from them about Jack seemed terribly late in the game... I doubt you could spend more than a few months around him and not feel pretty certain - Even if he never confirmed it completely, it seems pretty obvious if you spend time around him. You'd at least be coming from a position of, "He's pretty clearly into guys but we've never been able to get him to come out and admit it."
