None over the weekend, because we went to Oxford to meet up with friends. Have never been to Oxford before, is pretty, but am Philistine and prefer northern Norman alma mater. It is alma mater, after all. Anyway, too busy seeing friends to write, then too tired on Sunday evening after we got home, but have done some 850 words today and finished the sex scene. I wasn't originally going to have a sex scene in this story, but one happened anyway... I have fond hopes of finishing the first draft within a day or two, but I said that on Friday.

Am tired, to bed now.

Grump. Am in Oxford (or as good as). I know how difficult scheduling can be, but a meetup would be nice at some point!

It *is* a very nice city.

And yeah, sex scenes just seem to happen to you... why am I not surprised? <EG>

On this occasion, scheduling would have been impossible. A friend from California was coming over and suggested at the last minute that those of the group who had moved to the UK over the last couple of years meet up with him in Oxford and do Evensong, dinner, and Sunday morning concert in Magdalen with him. It was a rather full twenty four hours (and no wonder I was exhausted when we got home). However, prodding the nationalrail website suggests that a day trip by myself later in the summer might be feasible.

desperance was prodding me at Eastercon to write some actual sf or fantasy. I had to point out that there was a slight problem with this, in that even when I try to be good my stuff usually ends up taking a direction that makes it unsuitable for amny sf markets. :-)

I understand scheduling pains, and I also understand limited brainspace, but yeah, it would be lovely to meet up again at some point just to talk.


As for the SF - I'm not happy with the seeming requirement for a m/f romance subplot that most stories seem to fulfil. I want to see all kinds of stories, with all kinds of arrangements - and I want to see more characters who are just too busy and involved with their main plots to woo the girl. (Temeraire was a relief in that respect.) I want fiction to mirror the experience of my gay, lesbian, bi, poly, and happily single friends. Oh, and I want to be able to *sell* books about people who are not involved in traditional m/f romances, either.

I find the university/colleges more attractive in Oxford, and the town more attractive in Durham. (After all, it's hard to top a cathedral like that on top of a site like that; the first time I saw it from a train, my jaw dropped.)
