One of the joys of a rented flat is putting up with whatever fixtures and fittings came with it. This is a very nice flat, with new and shiny fittings. Alas, the new and shiny curtains are very attractive, but not terribly light-proof. This is not a good thing when your sleep cycle is seriously sensitive to external light levels, and the local sunrise is at ohgod o'clock in the morning. I was more or less putting up with this when I didn't have to drag myself to a day job, but I have not been amused of late. It's not just the sudden shock of work that's responsible for the complete lack of word count over the last few weeks.

So I went to B&Q this afternoon, and after a certain amount of wishing I'd checked which curtain rail fittings were broken before I went, and stealing them from a different room instead, I have installed nice thick dark curtains. They are not quite as thick and dark as I would wish, but they are a distinct improvement. With any luck, tonight I will not wake up at 5 am, and thus tomorrow I will not be too groggy to do anything when I get home.

And now I have to find somewhere in this rather small flat to store the landlord's nice curtains.

That used to bother me before I was on quetiapine. Adjusting my brain chemistry to what the doctor ordered has at least meant I'm far less twitchy at five or six o'clock in the morning on a bright day, and that I tend to fall back asleep if woken up.

Although it does bother me that at some point I'll have to go off the stuff: while I was at Eastercon I forgot to take my meds and found myself not falling asleep at all. Oh well, that's next year's problem, apparently.
