A winter's Sunday morning

I was doing a day's overtime today, which meant that I was strolling through the park on my way to the bus stop just after sunrise this morning. It was very cold, but it was such a perfect winter's morning that it was well worth it. The sky was absolutely clear, with that crystalline blue quality you sometimes get around dawn even in a large city, and the air was utterly still. A coating of frost outlined every blade of grass on the park lawn, so thick in places that you might mistake it for snow until you looked closely. The temperature was clearly at least 3 or 4 degrees below freezing, and yet it was so calm that as long as you were moving it didn't feel terribly cold. To the south-east, the sun was just coming up, casting a pink glow across the Victorian bricks of the houses that surround the park. To the south-west, there was a perfect half moon hanging low in the sky. And because it was early on Sunday morning, there were only a handful of people in the park, nodding to each other and commenting on how cold but beautiful a morning it was. And two dogs rushing madly back and forth across the grass, having a wonderful time in spite of the cold.

And just to round things off, the bus got to the stop only a minute or two after I did, so I didn't have time to get cold while waiting. :-)

I think you get some fairly pretty scenery at times round your way, don't you?

Yes, but I don't often get the scenery more or less to myself. And I think the urban landscapes in Denver are not quite up to par. Mostly you have to imagine the mountains without the powerlines in the way.
