The past is a different country...
Sep. 26th, 2009 03:21 pmStill unpacking the books, though on the final lap now. And one of the books in this box is my copy of Polaroid's "Photomicrography: instant photography through the microscope". It's a 72 page manual on, yes, exactly what the title says. It's well and clearly written, with ravishing illustrations, and the information in it on how to get the best out of your micrographs is still of value. But it was written to sell Polaroid instant film and camera systems to microscopists, and the product it promotes so well is no longer available to buy. Video killed the radio star, and digital killed the polaroid film. Fuji is still manufacturing instant film, but for anything else, you have to scrounge whatever's left in the warehouse.
Though I see there are still plans afoot to revive Polaroid format film packs to use in vintage cameras. Maybe we *can* rewind...
