And we appear to be back

My cross-post test post did eventually show up on LJ after normal service was more or less restored yesterday, and I've been able to read comments again. This is good, especially as I am not enamoured with G+ as a blogging platform, and even less enamoured with Google's attitude towards Real Names (TM).
However, it occurs to me that Just In Case, I should look into backing up my LJ. Not to the cloud, either. I finally got around to installing Thunderbird and using it to download my Gmail accounts to hardware under my control as a result of the G+ account closures, and I should find appropriate software to do the same for my LJ codebase stuff. Any recommendations?

Not only does it archive all your LJ posts and comments, but you can refer to it offline and it's searchable. For example, if I want to find an old post, I can search LJ-archive, find the date and then use LJ's calendar to find it online if I need to link to it.
