I have a confession to make...

...I succumbed and bought two ridiculously overpriced cupcakes for our afternoon tea. The sort of things that are pure conspicuous consumption, in the most literal sense of that phrase.

However, they were being sold at the local church's fundraiser at the heritage buildings open weekend, along with the many pots of excellent home-made jam which were the actual reason for my having headed for the stall. I do not regret paying as much for one extravagantly adorned fairy cake as might buy me a cheap sandwich, since that wasn't really the point of the exercise. And I have to say that whoever made them does very nice cakes indeed. :-)

I should probably go back and get one for kalypso-v, but I'm still not sure whether she'll make it back from the all important Lancashire-Hampshire match in time for dinner.

My favourite farm shop also sells exceedingly nice home made cakes. When I succumb, it's usually to the full-size lemon sponge cake - lemon butter filling and lemon frosting - because it's value for money and lasts well enough for a single person to consume. I was only conquered by the fairy cakes at Easter because they had mini-eggs on the top. ;)
