Since [livejournal.com profile] desperance is supplying food porn this evening by live-blogging the preparations for a dinner party involving many delicious dishes, I will merely note that I am having a simple chicken soup tonight. It was a roast chicken dinner last night, of course. The carcase has been in the stockpot for some hours, along with a pod or five of cardamom and an onion and carrot. Now the broth has been strained off, and the remains of last night's roasted vegetables diced and added. Plus a couple of onions diced and slowly sauteed in the chicken fat, and a couple of additional potatoes and carrots to top it off. Chop in the remaining chicken meat, add a splash of soy sauce and a sprinkling of salt, and it will go very nicely with a nice fresh loaf in ten minutes or so...

I lack a proper range of spices after the move. There should be coriander seed as well. Alas, it is a tiny kitchen with little storage and thus I have been reluctant to go out and replace the collection of herbs and spices that an unsupervised Other Half gave away to friends during the Great Clear-out.

Henry Allingham, Britain's oldest man, one of the three surviving WW1 veterans in the UK, last survivor of the battle of Jutland, and the last living founder member of the Royal Air Force, turned 112 today. Living history, indeed. More details here:

Not the teatime viewing one associates with the Whoniverse, is it? In fact, I put off watching this for a couple of weeks because the only time I had free to watch it was when I was eating, and I knew enough about the episode to know better than to do that...

This is one of the ones I had to skip for lack of time when I did my marathon catch-up on first broadcast. I've since been completely spoilered for the big surprise, of course, so I'm not going to see it in the same way as those who saw it the night of first broadcast.

That said -- it's one of the weakest episodes, in my opinion, but as seems to be the case with Torchwood, it's not a complete waste of time. And there are bits of it that look better considered as part of the long term story arc than they might on first viewing.
