She's discussing the oneupmanship in sex acts in erotic romance, the trend to ever more exotic acts as a way of creating a charge by pushing boundaries and breaking taboos. And she's talking about something that is going to cause a problem for any author who thinks about their craft -- how do you make it feel organic to the story, rather than something tossed in as titillation?
