The SF Gateway blog has a lovely post today for the first anniversary of Patrick Moore's death. I never felt quite the same way about him when I finally found out about his rather odd political views -- but it is a measure of how well he kept that separate from his role on The Sky At Night that I use the word "finally". I'm one of the many, many people he helped inspire with his writing, both science fact and science fiction. As the Gateway concludes:

"Sir Patrick Alfred Caldwell-Moore died on this day in 2012. Tonight, before you go to bed, why not pop outside for a few moments and look up, in his memory? I can think of no more fitting tribute."

Oddly, just half an hour ago I came back into the house saying 'Y'know? It's so cold out there, you can actually see stars!" (Silicon Valley = light-pollution central, for context.)

So yeah, I'll give that one to Patrick.

One of my most beloved books is his 'Can You Speak Venusian'...
