The root canal work has been done. Three and a half hours, in part because it was an emergency rather than a scheduled appointment and they had to fit me in around other patients. It was just starting to form the abscess, so I am very, very glad I had it done today instead of waiting until after the weekend. I'm tired and I have the post-surgery aches and pains, but that part of my jaw no longer feels as if something funny is going on.

I'm grateful for modern dental techniques. Fifty, maybe even thirty, years ago I'd have been down several more teeth than I actually am. At least I've still got this tooth, and am likely to have it for another twenty years as long as I go for regular checkups.

The big problem was that it never got all that painful, which made it impossible to pin down for certain which tooth it was. Then I woke up with it aching in a different way this morning, and it was obvious that something had gone into terminal decline - and the pressure change on a plane was likely to set off the final, extremely painful, stage. Otherwise I could have just made an appointment for early next week, and done it as a one to two hour stint.

*Everyone* was tired by the time it was finished. :-)
