I was sick during the night, and still feeling a bit off this morning, so I've rescheduled the dental appointment. Not too sick to write though, and I've just finished the first draft. 101,000 words in total. Now I need a title. And to do the synopsis, and the paperwork that will be wanted once I sign a contract, and a revision pass, and stuff like that. Joy.

Feeling a bit better now, thanks. An hour's sleep this afternoon has helped, because of course being sick in the middle of the night didn't much for my sleep.

I'm glad to have it done. I expected to have it finished by the middle of July, but what with one thing and another it's taken a bit longer than I thought. Though one reason is that the _book_ is longer than I thought -- I wasn't really expecting it to be more than around 75,000 words at most when I started. :-)

Ah - have you not yet met Brenchley's Rules of Everything? The first of these states that Everything Takes Longer.

I overran my targets also, for exactly the same reasons - first you write more words than you want, and then you have to take them out again - but I always do. Hence the Rule.

75,000 came out of "I can't see this being longer than 50,000 words in first draft, but given that I always end up writing longer than I expected, I'll schedule on the assumption of 75,000." :-)
