When Mark's PhD supervisor sent him for a job interview with an old university friend, he didn't mention that the friend was devastatingly handsome. He also didn't mention to either of them that the other one was gay.
Steven was just looking for a young scientist to train as a PA to help him run his technology company. No extra services required. But watching other people react to a young, pretty man playing secretary to an openly gay CEO amused them both. Subverting the stereotype, watching people wonder if they were having an affair, was an entertaining game. Then the game became real as the fantasy caught them both up, and Mark was left wondering... how real? Because he's the one PA in the building who can't marry the boss...

Date: 2007-01-31 09:56 pm (UTC)It's set in the period summer 2003 to February 2004 -- with a final chapter in February 2006 that I couldn't have written when I wrote the short story that started this off.
(And no, we're not supposed to give away the publication dates in case they have to be changed, but I think it's pretty obvious what day it's coming out.)

Date: 2007-01-31 10:17 pm (UTC)What Hafren and I were referring to is that the UK Civil Partnership Bill essentially went through in March 2004, and the registrars first started doing partnership ceremonies in December 2005. I wrote a short story a few years ago, which wasn't published until last year. The novel grew out of the ensuing discussion in my LJ:

Date: 2007-02-01 12:40 am (UTC)And "lalala, not listening!" I mostly don't want to know a single thing about a book or movie before I sit myself down to read/watch. Because I'm a crazy person.

Date: 2007-02-09 04:18 pm (UTC)Oh yes, I rememeber that day: I want to buy Keira Andrews book and cannot... I will be very interested in read this book of yours... One of my favourite stories are the tycoon/secretary type (I absolutely adore some books by Diana Palmer... I know, I know, she is an old style writer, but what can I do? Lord of the Desert is one of the most impossible story but also one of the most funny I have ever read). Another story I like is the superstar/nerdy type: if I could write something (and I'm absolutely inable to write something) I will write about two college roomates which meets after some year, one famous and rich, the other nerdy and plain jane type... ciao, elisa
