750 word excerpt from a 25-30 kword romance novella, one man one woman but any heat level goes. Entries accepted via the online entry system from 1 August to 30 September. No entry, fee, entries will be judged by Brava-published authors, top twenty get looked at by Ye Editor for potential publication. More details in their forum, linked to from that page.

If you write het romance novellas, this looks like a good one.

I know. But some of my friends do write het, so I thought I should flag it up.

At least someone on the forums asked if they'd be looking at gay romance, and got a polite response rather than pitchforks -- and the more often people ask, the more it becomes clear that there's a market for it.

Ah, but it's a required theme, too: reunited lovers.

So you could to a IanMBanksCulture-type SF, where they are reunited but one of them has changed genders during the time they've been apart, or become a hermaphhrodite. If they're now the same, you can have het flashbacks, for instance, while have the current story being gay, or vice versa. :-)

If you want to, play as much as you like. Ideas are, I've always found, easy to come by. It's the time, dedication and stamina required to actually write and edit (and edit and edit) that are scarce.
