Something's been bugging me since the first night, but I've only just consciously pinned down why.

I am a battle-hardened fan. I am a *Blake's 7* fan. I do not blink at main character death, and Torchwood has nothing on B7 for *that*. I was cruel and heartless and laughed at the baby fans left crying by the end of TW series 2. However, I am also a B7 fan who has seen one too many "they'll all be sorry when he's dead" fanfics, particularly the version where one character who has in the author's view failed to properly appreciate on-screen his One True Pairing is put through the wringer by not properly appreciating OTP until the last scene, and then being forced to watch as OTP dies in his arms, with just enough time for one last declaration of love. I am underwhelmed by seeing that dynamic playing out, with no sub-text or subtlety whatsoever, as canon.

So Ianto bites it then?

I must admit I was a bit worried when Jack and Ianto seemed to be pairing up exclusively. Getting too serious is usually a signal that one of them is going to peg it, and it couldn't be Jack. I'm not fond of the trope of killing off the romantic interest in order to press the reset button on a character. I'd rather have seen Ianto reject Jack for his part in the previous children thing and walk away from Torchwood altogether.

I wonder if they're planning to keep Lois? She's good.

I am, of course, presuming it's going to a fourth season... That seems to be the reaon for moving it to BBC1.

Yes, I do hope they keep Lois.

See, I figured when Lois did that whole "I'm a PA, it's what I do" thing that she'd be replacing Ianto. But I still didn't figure he'd die - I just thought he'd be...upgraded or something. I guess Seasons 1&2 taught me nothing.

Logically, the fourth season will be on BBC 0...

Actually, my problem was that I couldn't make out Ianto's dialogue in his final scene. I was already having trouble with Gareth David Lloyd's diction in an earlier scene, where I had to replay a line three times before I could understand what he was saying, but the death scene defeated me; after four replays all I could make out was that part of it was something about not forgetting him. So I had to give up and assume that if it had been important he'd have said it clearly.
