knitting in public

I've been wanting to get some stuff from the wool shop anyway, and the email announcing some interesting specials this weekend for Knitting In Public Day was a good incentive to drag myself out of bed and into the rain first thing this morning. I was so early the shop was still opening up as I arrived. Alas, I spent a little too long nattering to the woman in the shop, and missed the bus home by about 1 minute. It was early enough in the morning that the next bus wasn't for another forty minutes. Because I'd got to the bus stop less than half a minute late and hadn't seen the bus anywhere further up the road, I had to wait ten minutes or so to be certain I really had missed the bus and that it wasn't just running late. I'd left my Kobo at home to save weight in the backpack. My phone battery turned out to be dead.

And thus I have become that old lady who knits at the bus stop...

I'm sorry you missed the bus - especially when the next one wasn't for another 40 minutes - but there's something pleasant about al fresco knitting. :)

It did help pass the time. :-)

Unfortunately the thing I specifically went to the shop for is going to have to go back. I wanted to get a pair of those Symphonie needles with detachable cable, and a) the cable key doesn't fit the hole in the cable, b) one of the pins won't screw onto the cable anyway.

I did see comments online about the cable key problem with the new cables, but I am surprised at the problem with the internal thread in one pin. I strongly suspect that this is a returned pair they've put back on the stand.

I never hear about these things in time to do anything about it. Though having said that, it's been raining for most of the day and only just stopped.

I only heard about it via the email. It seemed to be something to do with a charity that organises knitting for good causes.

I knew nothing about it until I got the shop newsletter a few days ago, but since they moved to Cheadle I have to make an expedition of it to get there and can't just pop in on my way home from the shops. This is probably a good thing given how much money I'd spend on wool if they were still where I walk past them every day.
