A happy Christmas or Newtonmass to you, according to your taste. May it be a safe and pleasant one, and spent where you were planning to spend it.

Yes, we did make it to the SouthWet yesterday safely and with no delays. Quite a pleasant drive, in fact, other than the sun glaring off the snow making sunglasses a necessity. We got to admire the ice on the Severn on the way down. This morning I was out of bed in time to catch a photo of the sunrise, with a pale pink glow over the snow-covered hill to the west. Didn't manage to get a photo of the four and twenty blackbirds making merry on the heap of fermenting apples, as they obviously thought I wanted to put them in a pie, and pushed off as soon as I opened the conservatory door with camera in hand.

The sun this morning is bright and surprisingly warm when you're safe from winter behind a double-glazed window. There's a classic UK Christmas card scene outside that window, stone buildings set in snow-covered fields. It's an illusion, of course, but there's comfort in illusion, and sometimes truth too. Some of my friends are alone today, but there's a little less loneliness thanks to an electronic web of communication that goes on so long as there's connectivity. Good wishes to you all.

The rain held off long enough for me to get the rest of my flowers planted, but returned in time to rob the dogs of their evening walk. Otherwise our Christmas was quiet and spent close to home. I mislaid your new address or you would have received the traditionally tasteful card o' the season from me.

Do you anticipate any new stories of yours being released in 2011?
