Third entry in Charlie's blog series. This time he's looking at book contracts, and what rights are sold. What's going on mass market fiction publishing contracts is almost certainly not what you think (unless you're already familiar with the topic).
Readers, this tells you why you can't buy that Big Name Publisher ebook from Fictionwise because you're in the wrong country. Small press authors, especially epubbed -- *read* *this*. It has stuff you need to know about, not least because too many start-up epubs *don't* know about Important Contract Stuff. Or worse, they do know, and have stacked the deck against you even more than the Big Name Print Publishers will, in the expectation that you don't have an agent to red-ink the evilness.
